Five in one

Every morning, I carry my shower basket full of different colored bottles and containers. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shaving cream, face wash... each one made for a specific cause. Each one used for the same activity.

All those bottles of shampoo and soap generally end up doing the same thing: cleaning you. So why don't we just put it all together? I've tried body wash combined with shaving cream; why not take it a step further, combining body wash, shaving cream, shampoon...oh what the heck, lets just throw it all in there; a 5 in one product. And if you want to go even further, you can use it as hand soap. ;)

Having this all in one cleaning product is such a practical idea for me. Not only does it save space but it saves money, plastic, and waste as well. Think about it: generally everyone (for the most part...) takes showers or baths (or some other method of cleaning) everyday or every other day at least (I hope...); most people use at least two or three different kinds of cleaning substances (shampoo and conditioner, shampoo, conditioner and soap...etc). If we really wanted to imply environmental concepts into our day to day lives (like changing the light bulbs to Fluorescent, or bringing your own bags for the grocery), I would say this is a great way to take some sort of step towards change in our day to day lives. For me, thats what it boils down to; living simply.

In 2006, the United States generated 14 million tons of plastic through containers and packaging.

  1. They're all probably the same chemical composition anyway! Might as well combine them.
