Gettin' Your Hands Dirty

Lots of people donate money to lots of causes: feeding the poor, clothing the poor, giving medical care to the poor, the list continues. However, I feel that simply giving money to the needy isn't good enough. Indeed, I do think that face-to-face aid is important . Donating money is a wonderful thing to do, but it can be kind of detached. Well, very detached. Not meaningless, because the money donated can still do a lot of good, but the simple donation as has far less meaning for the giver than actually seeing people in need and being able to help them physically, or at least give them money face to face. Seeing the needs of people with one's own eyes can help the benefactors to understand why they give, and it could also inspire them to find more creative or even more practical ways to give.

The importance of face-to-face aid also includes the people being helped. Often, people who are in a poor or helpless situation in life feel like they've been forgotten about by the world, like they are being neglected. Now, if they receive some sort of monetary aid, some of their physical woes are alleviated. However, such cold giving does nothing to repair their sense of abandonment. They may still feel like an outcast of society. that's why face-to-face aid is so important. Sending a hceck in the mail is great, but taking your money, your time, and your resources directly to those in need will help the person you are giving to feel like they are cared about.
