Is Paper Inefficient?

It seems that the list of things we do inefficiently is seemingly infinite. Although our dependence upon this resource is dwindling, people use millions of tons of paper a year. I am astounded by the amount of paper that is wasted by many students every year for school related projects. We are becoming an increasingly web based culture, which has many pros (as well as cons).

Processing paper is extremely taxing on the environment, allocating many tons of precious fossil fuels to its production. There is a solution to this paper problem. Perhaps schools should begin to integrate all their curriculum onto the internet so as to avoid unneccessary paper waste.
Also, there is a great amount of paper that is simply thrown away after use. Millions of tons of paper is simply disposed of without a second thought to the environment or our dwindling supply of the fossil fuels that goes into the development of paper. With recycling and conversion to computers, we may be able to help alleviate these environmental stressers. It is ludicrous that we waste so much paper and should take active steps to change.

  1. So we should waste less paper...what ideas do you have to accomplish that? I'm looking for ideas here, not problem statements.
