social media FOR education

Social media is most commonly used to describe commercials, movies, advertisements, facebook, and the like. It is more commonly seen as a distraction to education and a way to manipulate kids into spending money in one way or another (watching movies, buy the latest technology/toys). The is always some sort of hype about a new this or an improved that, a rising celebrity, the latest gossip. Society uses media to draw attention and importance to whatever it wants, using the manufactured hype to buy and sell to their needs.

My audience is more directed towards the ages of 5-21 (the general years of education that a person may study). What if these techniques were directed more towards educational purposes? Highlighting the pursuit for knowledge as the fashionable thing to do these days. Social media has power, especially in this generation; I'm not saying that it has the ability to control society but rather it has a strong impact on how the society views the world. Yes, social media does promote education, but I'm talking about something that will create a larger effect on students; personal will and motivation. This may sound crazy, but what if many of the top music artists began to pursue higher education rather than money and fame in their music videos/lyrics, not just once, but for most of the future artworks? I'm wondering if it would work the same way.

  1. Social media is a tool, nothing more or less. Like with other tools it can be used in ways both positive and negative. It's a way for you to build your own, personal brand.
